Sakkara

Sakkara houses the Step Pyramid that is very different from the ones at Giza in that it was build with step-like points. Four-thousand five-hundred years ago, Imhotep, an Egyptian architect, built this tomb to give shelter to King Djoser after he died. He began the pyramid as a single story and then gradually, over much time, added five more levels to complete it. He then covered it with fine limestone. In front of the pyramid, he built a stone structure containing a wooden box which reveals a painting of King Djoser. By placing the King there, Imhotep, made sure that the King could still communicate with the outside world even though buried deep within the massive tomb.
