Hussein Bikar

Hussein Bikar

Give and take, give "love" and take "love", is his message in life. Looking to the bright side of things, is the principle he adored. This man is Bikar the multi-talented artist who managed, through a brush with different taste, to create a very peculiar kind of art.

Born on January 2, 1913, in Alexandria, Anfoushi, Hussein Amin Bikar, better known as Bikar, was raised in a modest family, but, fortunately, the surroundings were encouraging for sky-limit imagination. It is the Mediterranean.

Surfing waves, breezy air, shiny sun and picturesque scene of Alexandria, undoubtedly, instigated the little boy whose favorite hobby was reading to unleash his potentials.

He walked the winding avenue of press, and managed to place himself in a high steep among famous cartoonists and journalists. In 1944, Bikar quit his job as a director of photographing department at the Faculty of Fine Arts to join "Akhbar El Yom" Publishing House, to be one of three renowned cartoonists in the field; Rakha and Sarokhan.

Bikar, however, ascribed the success he realized over years to many factors; his acquaintance with both Moustafa Amin and Ali Amin, who he described as Master of Journalism in Egypt.

Ahmed Sabri, Bikar's senior in "Akhbar El Yom", in fact, played the key role in teaching him arts of Journalism.

With his simple but expressive way of displaying his ideas, sophisticated readers, also, were drawn to his style together with average ones, who found his touchy brush matchless when voicing pains and joys of the layman.

In his view point, Alexandria today is that of yesterday. It has never changed, the essence is the same, the people are the same, as the mermaid of the Mediterranean was and will remain a source of inspiration for genuine art.
